Joe Battista of Penn State, a Founding Member of the ACHA, Steps Down as Head Coach after 19 Incredible Seasons

Appointed Executive Director of the Nittany Lion Club

Joe Battista

UNIVERSITY PARK (PA) - Joe Battista, who led the Penn State Icers to six national championships, has been named Executive Director of the Nittany Lion Club in the Office of Development and Alumni Relations.

Battista brings proven leadership and remarkable success to his new post, compiling a record of 512-120-27 as head coach of the Icers for the past 19 years. The Icers captured ACHA national titles in 1990, '98, 2000, '01, '02 and '03 and were ACHA runners-up six times, including each of the past three seasons.

Battista was a founding member of the ACHA back in 1991. [MORE]

Division 1

RHODE ISLAND WINS 1ST NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

WEST CHESTER (PA) - The University of Rhode Island won its 1st ACHA Division 1 National Championship, defeating #3 Penn State 3-1.  Matt Loftus scored the game-winner with only 0:52 seconds left in the game.  After two scoreless periods, David Berardinelli put Rhode Island up with 12:19 remaining in the game.  Penn State's Justin Depretis tied it at 1-1 with 3:33 left in the 3rd before Loftus' heroice.  Brandon Kape scored into an empty-net for the final margin.  Anthony Feyock was named the Tournament MVP.  [MORE]

Congratulations to Oakland University for winning the Division 2 National Championship 7-6 in overtime over Liberty University for their second National Championship.  Both National semi finals were also decided in overtime 3-2 when Liberty beat Davenport and Oakland over Colorado State[MORE]

Wright State Raiders beat Northwood University 4-3 to win 2006 Division 3 title

Fort Meyers (FLA) - Wright State University Raiders defeated Northwood University to win the  DIII National Championship 4-3.  For Tournament scoreboard details visit National page.

Women's Division

 Women's Division 2 to begin play in 2006-07 season

NAPLES (FL) - The ACHA has officially formed a Women's Division 2 which will begin play for the 2006-07 season. The new division is designed for programs who want the same benefits, competition and advantages of Women's Division 1 membership but have a more inclusive set of eligibility requirements for their program. ACHA Completes it's 15th Season of Operation; 15th Anniversary Logo Issued to Commemorate the Occasion

 

 

 

WEST BLOOMFIELD (MI) - The American Collegiate Hockey Association completed its 15th season of operation in 2005-2006.  To commemorate this occasion, the ACHA issued a 15th anniversary logo, designed by Rick Pallansch of Towson University.

Feel free to utilize the 15th Anniversary Logo on your websites.  It is available in both a color version and a black-and-white version.
