Annual Dawn Bailey Volunteer Award

In honour of Dawn Bailey who passed away suddenly in 2011, The BWHA would like to recognize players within our association that provide exceptional volunteerism within our community and stand out as role models for their fellow teammates.

This annual bursary award will be announced and handed out at the BWHA AGM in the spring.

For those that knew Dawn, she was a role model for young women coming up through the hockey system. Dawn spent many hours volunteering her time in various capacities. Dawn was a skilled hockey player, coach and referee. But most importantly, she was a mentor to those around her and a natural leader that generated future opportunities for those interested in woman’s hockey.

The bursary award:
The award will be free registration for the following calendar year of play.
*For those candidates who are in the last year of junior hockey, the free registration can be applied to play in the senior division. *The award is non-transferable to other members.

Application process:
Coaches within Bantam & Midget BWHA will have a chance to nominate one of their players. Nomination of a candidate is at the coach’s discretion.
To be considered for nomination for this award the candidate should meet the following criteria:

  • Be a registered player within the BWHA association in good standing
  • Be of Bantam/Midget age
  • Be actively volunteering in the community*
  • Be willing share their thoughts on volunteering and how their role and the impacts to the community
  • Consent to be considered is obtained from the candidate and their family

*Candidates may be asked to provide proof of the time volunteered

Important Information:
Once consent is obtained from the candidate and their family, the coach sends an email to email should include the following information; the candidates contact information (candidate’s name, email address, phone number and parents’ name) and a short paragraph outlining why the candidate should be considered.

All potential candidates will be reviewed by the BWHA Executive and may be contacted where necessary to obtain more information.

The successful candidate will be announced at the AGM.
