Welcome Coaches
Simply put, the program would not run without you. We hope the upcoming 2009 Outdoor Season is one of exciting challenges for you and your players, learning from defeats and celebrating successes. All coaches are required to complete a Criminal Records Check. Coach package information will be posted on line mid April. Please check back.
IMPORTANT - Community Coach Meeting Dates Pre-season meetings are held for all U4-U18 Community Team Coaches, Co-coachs, and Assistant Coaches, to review program details and Coaching materials, distribute jerseys/equipment, and the best part - provide training and practice tips with an on-field session run by our Head Coach Graham Wood. (Make sure to dress for the weather)
Outdoor 2009 In-Services are set for April 18, 19. Equipment and jerseys will be distributed at this time, so please mark these very important dates on your calendar.
Format for each group will be: Meeting at SASA Clubhouse followed by equipment/jersey pick up and training in-service on the field with Graham reviewing age appropriate games and challenges specific to your age group. Practice Booklet provided. Questions welcome at training!

April 19th 10am-12pm | Impact Coaches (Club Soccer Program) Pre-season meetings were held for all Impact Coaches prior to tryouts. Additional meetings are at the discretion of EMSA and EIYSA Leagues. Please ensure you attend any meetings they set.
Additional Coaching Seminars/Workshops/In-Services are offered all season long! All Seminars and workshops are held at Riel soccer fields - weather permitting, and in school gyms or at Servus Place in the colder months. Check back soon for additional training dates & topics for the Outdoor 2009 season.
Coaching Certification - NCCP Courses Coach Course Descriptions CSA/ASA certified coaching courses for Community Coaches are offered every spring, with the fee being paid by SASA on your behalf. Courses take place at SASA's Riel Clubhouse and fields. They will be comprised of some classroom time, but the majority is on-field time. Dress appropriate for all weather conditions. You may bring a bagged lunch for break time. You may take one or more of these courses, and in any order. Coaches acquiring all 3 components & adding a Theory Level 1 Course receive their Community Coach License from the CSA.
2009 NCCP Courses: 2 day Course, April 24 & 25, 2009, 9am-5pm - NCCP Youth Community Coach Course (coaching age 14 and younger) 2 day Course, May 2 & 3, 2009, 9am-5pm - NCCP Senior Community Coach Course (coaching age 14 and older) 1 day Course, May 9, 2009, 9am-5pm - NCCP Child Community Coach Course (coaching age 10 and younger) To register for an NCCP Course, please contact Margaret at programcoordinator@stalbertsoccer.com
The Pre-B Assessment and B License Program is offered through the ASA. Pre-B takes place late April in 2009 and the B License Program takes place in September. Interested applicants must be referred by our Head Coach.
Theory Courses: Additional theory courses are offered by Grant MacEwan College. These courses are an excellent supplement to the on-field NCCP Courses above, addressing sports nutrition, psychology, and more. Feedback from these courses has always been excellent. For course information dates, and registration information please go directly to Grant MacEwans's website or phone them at 497-5300.
Resources for Coaches SASA is here to support you in this area. Courses, training booklets, videos, on-line support via the on-line areas under Development Centre & more. If you don't see what you're looking for, stop by or give us a call. Coach training books with ideas for practices, practice drill cards, videos and more can be signed out at the SASA Office during office hours. (FYI - Coaching videos are also available at the Public Library) In addition all coaches are asked to attend pre-season and encouraged to return for mid season coach training in-services offered by Head Coach, Graham Wood. Each in-service is designed to cover a different set of topics such as attacking, defending, finishing, transition, and more. If you have a specific challenge with your team and need help - the door is always open! Just phone, drop in, or email Head Coach.

Coaches Rebate Program To show appreciation for the work and efforts of the 200+ volunteer Community Coaches, SASA has created the Coach Appreciation Rebate Program. The program gives a maximum $50 rebate that can be applied to the next season's registration. The rebates can be split between Co-Coaches. For further information contact the Community League Coordinator.
