General Program Information:

U14 Boys teams and U14 Girls teams play 11 v 11 with a dedicated goalkeeper
Teams play in the EWZSA (Edmonton West Zone Soccer Association) League.  This allows for teams to seed (move) up or down to play at an appropriate competition level. Games are on mid to large size outdoor fields.  Each team needs a minimum of 1 volunteer coach, 1 volunteer assistant coach or co-coach, plus a volunteer bench mom or dad if the coaches are not the same gender as the team.

Game times are 85 minutes long.  Teams begin with a 10-15 minute warm-up off to the side prior to their scheduled kick-off.  They then play 2 x 40 minute halves with a brief half time.

Parents not volunteering, will be able to cheer the players on from the sidelines.

Referee Liaison Program in Effect
It is mandatory for every team to assign one of the parents at the field as the referee liaison for each game.   This person must be listed on the Game Sheet, wear the referee liaison armband, must be a reasonable person with whom a referee can confer if they are having problems with spectators on that side of the field and must be willing to help referees defuse minor situations.

Parents and Coaches - please be kind
.  Referees are generally also youth referees in training for this age group.   As this is a mentor program as much for the young referees as it is for the players on the field learning the game.  If you have feedback on a referee, good or bad - send it our way.  Accolades put them in a draw for prizes.  Concerns are forwarded to our RDC who works with referees year round to help them improve.  Help us keep these refs in the system.  Please - no negative comments during a game.  Put them in writing to us instead.   If we all work together, these young refs will continue to improve with experience and training to become an asset for all programs.   Thanks in advance for doing your part!  If you have feedback on a referee, good or bad - send it our way.  Accolades put them in a draw for prizes.  Concerns are forwarded to our DRA who works with referees year round to help them improve.  Help us keep these refs in the system.  Please - no negative comments during a game.  Put them in writing to us instead.   If we all work together, these young refs will continue to improve with experience and training to become an asset for all programs.   Thanks in advance for doing your part!

Volunteer Coaches are always needed at this level
It's fun and rewarding, and a great way to get involved!  A pre-season meeting with hands-on training will be held where you will receive a manual and information on how to set up and run drills and training games for the whole season.  SASA also provides in-house support from our Head Coach and an end of season rebate certificate which can be used towards future registrations.

A Criminal Records Check is required for all coaches
Please pick up your volunteer letter of introduction for the RCMP or EPS when you sign up at registration.

Provincial Competition Requirements

ASA requires all teams advancing to Outdoor Provincials to have an LTPD (NCCP) Certified coach on their roster.   Courses are only offered in April & early May, and we are only able to offer 1 of each level of course, so please watch our website.  If you are coaching a team in U14, it will be important for you to ensure you have taken the LTPD age appropriate course or your team will not be able to attend Provincials if they earn the right.

Coach Certification Courses

Once again this season, SASA will be offering LTPD Coach Courses specific to various ages and skill levels. These 4 courses are hands on, interesting, highly recommended and require prior registration.  As a volunteer for SASA, we will cover the cost of your registration, however a refundable deposit will be taken to ensure attendance. Register early to ensure a spot - space is limited.  marjo@stalbertsoccer.com

Tournament of Champions - June 21 - 24
This fun wrap up tournament is used to determine league champions at the end of the season.  If there are enough teams - divisions are formed prior to the event.  If not enough teams a simple round robin determines placement for the season.  Medals, treats and a hot dog lunch are provided to all players on the final day.    One volunteer from each team will be required to make this event a success (looks after team's hot dog order).

Coach Appreciation Social - tentatively set for June 28, 2013

Save the Date and join us for our Open House Pub Night!!!  Spouses/significant others welcome.  Snacks, drinks, and prizes provided! More details to follow.
