South End United (MB) |
1 | The Mississauga Erin Mills Eagles faced their toughest challenge to date against South End United from Manitoba. However, the Eagles scored their 'trademark" early goal with Amanda Waugh finding the net in the 3rd minute.
Two goals from corner kicks gave Erin Mills a 3-0 half-time lead. On the first corner, the Manitoba keeper got to the ball first but pushed it towards her own goal with Melissa Bigg getting the final touch and being credited with the goal.
The second corner kick taken by Erin Flynn sailed directly into the goal although it appeared to deflect off a Manitoba defender.
South End United pressed on in the second half and were eventually rewarded with a goal in the 75th minute. However, any hopes of getting back into the game were quickly thwarted as Heather Malizia restored the Eagles three-goal lead in the 77th minute.
The final score stood at 4-1 for Erin Mills.
The game was played at the Canadian Coast Guard College field under partly cloudy skies and a temperature of 15C. The forecast for Saturday is for heavy rain! Luckily, both boys and girls teams play at the New Waterford Turf Field tomorrow, October 8th.

East Side SC (SK) |
0 | The Mississauga Erin Mills Eagles had already guaranteed themselves a place in Monday's Gold Medal game with victories in their first three games, so they entered this game against Eastside SC from Saskatchewan determined to avoid any injuries.
Despite controlling much of the play, the Eagles had few goal-scoring opportunities and the game finished in a 0-0 tie.
Kristina Terpoy played in net for the shut-out.
The game was played at the New Waterford Turf Field and the threatened rain held off for the first half but bucketed down for most of the second half. It was a good thing the game was held on the artificial Field Turf pitch.
The Eagles' Gold Medal game is scheduled for Monday, October 10th at 11:30am Ontario time.

Sherwood Park Rangers (AB) |

The Mississauga Erin Mills Eagles faced off against Alberta champion, Sherwood Park Rangers, for the Gold Medal.
Both teams played strong defensively resulting in few good opportunities at either end and a 0-0 tie at the half.
The Alberta squad was mining for gold and upped the pressure in the second half, but the Erin Mills defense held firm.
With just 10 minutes remaining and overtime on the horizon, Erin Mills pushed forward and forced a free kick outside the penalty area and towards the side-line.
Navreet Deol -- who usually comes forward for set pieces and has scored several goals this week with headers -- stabbed the ball home with her foot when the Alberta team failed to clear, giving Erin Mills a 1-0 lead.
With parents and supporters pacing nervously along the side-line, the Erin Mills defense closed down all Alberta foreys and held firm for a 1-0 win at the final whistle.
Keeper Krista Pace claimed the shut-out and Mississauga Erin Mills the Gold Medal and National Championship!
