The coaches of the ACHA Women's Division have named Lindenwood University's Vince O'Mara as the 2006 Coach of the Year. The Lions captured their first ACHA Women's Division title this season with O'Mara behind the bench, along with Assistant Coach Rick Pratt.
O'Mara was selected from a field of dedicated coaches which also included:
John Burke, Robert Morris College
M. Dalton Ford, University of Virginia
Vince just completed his third season as head coach of the Lindenwood University Women’s Hockey Team. In those three seasons Vince has an overall record of 70-9-3. The Lady Lions have made three consecutive trips to the ACHA National Tournament during his reign. His third trip seemed to be his lucky charm as the Lady Lions won the national championship. The previous two years Lindenwood University finished in 5th place.
Prior to coming to Lindenwood, Vince was the head coach for the St. Louis Force Senior Women’s Select 16 and over team. He coached the force for five seasons with a record of 135-25-12. In that time the team won 4 WCHL championships, 5 State championships and made it to Nationals four out of five seasons. Coach O’Mara has also coached boy’s hockey at the Bantam and Midget age level. He has also held and has been an instructor at many camps and clinics throughout his 32 plus years of hockey involvement both as a player and a coach. Away from the ice he likes to spend his time fishing, riding bikes and spending time with his wife Jennifer and their daughter Alyssa.
