Minutes of Meeting of November 2, 2004
Programs not in attendance: Brooklyn, Panthers, Flames.
Motion to approve minutes of October 12, 2004 league meeting made by Dee Trobentor. Second by Betty Ann Maulorico. All in favor.
Dee Trobentor, State Tournament Report: Tier II Peewees will be at Strongsville, Tier II Bantams at Gilmour, Midgets Tier I and Tier II at Sportsplex. March 10-12. Local tournaments have problems getting sanctioned because of 100-mile rule (no tournaments can be same weekend within 100 miles of state tournament location.) Guaranteeing exclusive use of referees is reason for rule, won’t having all three tournaments in same area also put strain on availability of local referees? May have to bring in outside referees. Local tournaments are told not to schedule for first-second weekend in March, State, District tournaments always those weekends. Problem is local tournaments cannot schedule tournaments weekend before or after; conflicts with league playoffs or other rink functions, then spring leagues start. League playoffs cannot be moved up because of conflicts with President’s Day tournaments. We will again have to request waiver of rule from MidAm.
Cathy Fievet, MidAm Associate District Registar was unable to attend tonight’s meeting but will be collecting team rosters, have USA Hockey rule books and annual guides available at regular season scheduling Saturday, November 6.
Betty Ann Maulorico, Treasurer’s Report: Initial league bills will be going out to programs this week. First referee payroll will also be going out this weekend. Extended length of preseason has resulted in increased payroll. There are sufficient funds to cover this first payroll, but prompt payment of league bills is requested before next payroll comes due. League fees are not expected to increase next season. Referee fees have not been increased for five years. We will be reviewing pay structure for referees, comparing to neighboring leagues and this will be discussed at future meetings. Programs will be made aware of any proposed increases far in advance of establishing budgets for the 2005-2006 season.
Regular Season Team Placement and Division Levels: Results of team petitions to move up or down levels, final team placement for regular season was distributed. Elyria’s 2nd Bantam team requested to be allowed to move from A2 to A1 division. Elyria’s petition was sent in time but not received in time for consideration. Strongsville’s 2nd team will move from A3 to A2, Columbus’s 3rd team will be allowed to move from B to A3.
Canton-Akron’s 2nd Peewee Team requested movement from B1 to A3 was approved.
Scorekeeping: Teams reps/coaches are now able to enter their own scores directly onto the website. Registration and entering scores is a very easy process. Beginning regular season we will no longer be taking score reports via email or phone. We still request that the white copy of the score sheet to the league office to verify score input, track penalties.
Regular Season Scheduling will be Saturday, November 2, 2004. Begins 8am with Bantams/Midgets, 10am for Peewees, noon for Squirts, 2pm for Mites. Teams need to bring ice schedule for entire season. Cross-table format of scheduling home and away system from past years will be used. Once regular season games have all been scheduled teams will have the opportunity to schedule extra non-league scrimmage games.
Program Directors are requested to be available during all scheduling session to work out any ice time conflicts.
Select Teams to Silver Sticks: 91’s will be going Nov.11-13, 93’s Nov. 18-20. Players are to play with their program team rather than Select team whenever there is a conflict. In this case programs are requested, not required to schedule around these weekends if possible so their select players may attend. Ron Short will distribute a list of which players are going so programs will know if their players are involved.
Tryouts: Before the next league meeting programs are requested to send the league office a description of what dates their tryouts are held.
Mite C Scheduling will be Monday, December 6, 7pm at Rocky River.
Motion to adjourn made by Mike Cordish. Second by Ron Short. All in favor.
