Minutes of Meeting of January 11, 2005
Programs not in attendance: Cleveland Skating Club, Columbus, CYHA Panthers, Ohio Flames, Tri-County and Youngstown.
Board Members not in attendance: Barry Lulas.
Motion to approve minutes of December 7, 2004 league meeting made by Dee Trobentor, second by BettyAnn Maulorico. All in favor, motion approved.
Increase in Referee Fees: Motion to table discussion of this agenda item until Barry Lulas is present. Second Don Lewis. All in favor.
Select League report by Ron Short. Growing respect between players from different programs one of the benefits of this endeavor. Reflected in decline in number of disciplinary hearings this season. Only one hearing this year, three or more by this time in past seasons. 3 teams participated in Silver Sticks, were competitive despite Select teams comprised of single birth year/first year players playing against teams with all second year players. Ron requests suggestions and input from program directors on ways to improve, new ideas for next year.
Game Misconducts Reports: Terry Horonzy apologizes, left printed reports at home. Will send via email. Numbers of game misconducts reduced this season from last season, credits Select League and efforts of program directors and coaches. Delay in score sheets being mailed to league office and league office not being copied on referee reports occasionally results in a player or coach not serving suspension in a timely manner. Sometimes this is intentional, sometimes confusion or lack of knowledge of rules. Policing of system is remarkably efficient (word gets out) and catches up to negligent individual. Suspensions are then served, sometimes with additional sanctions.
Games postponed due to weather: There are still a few games not rescheduled from Dec. 19 and 23, please have the coaches agree on a new game date and notify the league office and referee assigner as soon as possible.
Playoffs: Playoff Chair Don Lewis reported only 3 bids have been received so far, please get them to him by January 15. There will be 68 total games for 22 divisions, all division play 3 games for 4 teams, Squirt AA will have 6 eligible teams for 5 games. Mite B does not have playoffs. Will be posted on the website as soon as possible. Also please let Don know if programs have any special requests so he can adjust schedule to accommodate. Teams may not schedule out-of-town tournaments same weekends as playoffs. First round will be Feb. 27-28, Championships March 5-6.
To be eligible to participate in players a player must have played in at least 50% of team’s regular season league games. Injury waiver is available.
Mite C schedule is on website, should game scores be entered as well? Entering through league administration caused score function to be added automatically. Would be preferable to add schedule only to website as separate link.
Directors and Officer’s Insurance: nothing has been received from MidAm regarding this but was supposed to go into effect January 1 2005. Terry Horonzy will have more information on this after USA Hockey Winter meeting Jan 19-23.
Screening: Teams going to State Tournament will be required to have this as part of their credentials packet.
New program applications: From Fremont and Wooster will be discussed at the next league meeting on February 8, 2005. Per our Bylaws the decision to admit new programs will be made by the Board of Directors. The Board will take into consideration the opinions of current programs on new applicants.
Motion to adjourn made by Dee Trobentor. Seconded by Steve Brown. All in favor, meeting adjourned.
