Decisions on Team Petitions for regular season placement were reviewed. Both CSHL RPI and Midwest Ranking Systems were used this year, Midwest as a beta test. Both systems use different logarithms, yet most team rankings were very similar between the two systems. It did seem that have two separate systems contributed to the reduction of petitions received this year.
The method used to determine number of teams in each division was explained. Ideal is between 7-9 teams per division. However, large gaps in ranking between teams indicate a natural division break, and granting of one petition resulted in one 10-team division, one 6-team division.
Euclid 405 is a select team, there were some players that were playing on both Euclid 405 and another non-select CSHL program team. These players cannot play on both teams, even though as select Euclid is not eligible to win division or participate in playoffs. Euclid elected to not play at all in CSHL even as select, so that the double rostered players do not have to choose one team or the other. It is an internal program decision whether to permit or disallow such double rostering.
Past rule was Select teams were guaranteed minimum one game vs. all non-select teams in the AA division. This year the rule was changed so that now regular season games vs. select teams area optional. Most teams still will choose to play the select teams; in certain cases it avoids unpleasant situations.
Regular Season scheduling agenda allows 2-1/2 hours for each division. It was asked if this is too much time allotted for this. Answer was no, based on last season and also preseason, 2-1/2 hours is absolutely necessary to do all changes on site and have coaches leave with printed schedules.
Volunteers are needed to assist with data entry, please see Terry after the meeting if you are available to help.
Length of Bantam games; game time was reduced to 14 minute periods to allow for anticipated extended game length due to application of USA Hockey Standards of Play. Program directors and coaches were asked for input on returning to 15 minute period Bantam games for regular season. Many rink schedules are already set for 14, not 15 minute periods and it would be difficult to change at this point. Referees noted that 15 minute periods with no ice cut is a problem; ice deteriorates, players get tired, penalties pile up. Board will take all opinions into consideration when making their decision on this issue. Scrimmages can use entire ice slot as long as referees receive extra compensation accordingly.
Bantam A-2 division with 9 teams, 4 are Columbus teams. Idea suggested by Caleb Wyse to schedule 3-4 games in one weekend. Cost of 2 nights in hotel must be considered, however offsets cost of driving. Wooster has large blocks of available ice, could be halfway point for teams to meet. Peewee A-2, Peewee A-3 Squirt A-1 also has multiple Columbus teams, please try to schedule so that at least 2 games vs Columbus teams are played in one weekend.
Winterhurst Mite B team 135 is dropping out of the league and will be playing Mite C.
Mite C scheduling is Monday, December 4, 7 pm at Rocky River. Bring 5- 7 ice slots.
Cathy Fievet has advised that team rosters are due Saturday. Team does not need to have new roster if moving from A-2 to A-3, for example, only if going from House to Tier II.
Releases – please send list of non-released players to league office.
Game Misconduct report – listed those received to date. League/Mark Clendenin Discipline Director will be keeping closer observation this season. Barry will make sure other ref assigners know to send reports of game misconducts to the league office.
Cleveland Sporting Goods will be relocating to Eastgate Shopping Center sometime this month.
Mike Radosevic motion to adjourn. Second Chris Kendel. Motion carried, meeting adjourned.
